Thailand has issued a draft consultation that proposes to alter its list of ingredients permitted for use in cosmetic products.
Thailand's Ministry of Public Health plans to add ten substances to the banned list, including 1,3-butadiene, as well as removing the permitted preservative quaternium-15.
Thailand will introduce new conditions for the use of certain UV filters.
Homosalate would be permitted in non-aerosol facial sunscreen products at a maximum concentration of 7.34%.
In addition, benzophenone-3 (Oxybenzone) would be allowed in sunscreen products intended for the face, hands and lips at a maximum concentration of 6%.
According to Global Foodmate, a Chinese regulatory compliance consulting company, the draft further proposes the addition of five preservatives to the list of substances permitted in cosmetics.
Among them, zinc pyrithione would be authorized for use in shampoo products at a maximum concentration of 1%, while its use in leave-on cosmetic products would be limited to 0.1%.
The plans, open to consultation until 8 July, would also introduce tighter limits for salicylic acid.
