Dow has concluded an exclusive agreement with Locus Performance Ingredients (Locus PI) to sell its sophorolipid biosurfactants in the global personal care market.
Locus PI makes the sophorolipids, an ingredient in the glycolipid class of biosurfactants, via fermentation. They have the USDA Certified Biobased Product label for containing 100% biobased, renewable raw materials and are said to offer superior performance in foam stability and surface tension reduction.
Dow commented: “The ingredients offer a substantial reduction in carbon footprint relative to conventional surfactants. This engagement will enable Dow to strengthen its position in the biosurfactants market, addressing growing consumer demand for sustainable, biobased, and biodegradable ingredients.”
