Fragrance ingredients published
The International Fragrance Association has published a list of fragrance ingredients used in consumer goods by customers worldwide in a bid to create greater transparency within the industry.
Shanghai business and technology centre launch
Dow Corning is to launch a China Business and Technology Centre in Zhangjiang, Shanghai, China in 2010 to promote innovation in silicon-based materials and technologies, the company announced recently. Dow Corning was one of dozens of multinational companies and organisations, to sign agreements on January 20 with The People’s Government of Shanghai Pudong New Area. The company will move their operations to Pudong New Area later this year.
Australian fair trade certs considered
A meeting held in Broome, North Western Australia, between major stakeholders in the area of fair trade, agreed to evaluate kakadu plum and desert raisin from Aboriginal communities for fair trade certification. This is the first time this has been considered outside a third world country.

Cognis has launched a new microsite that provides comprehensive information about alkyl polyglucoside surfactants (APG). Obtained from natural, plant-derived raw materials such as vegetable oils and starch, APGs are used in environmentally sound high-performance products for the personal care, home care and industrial and institutional cleaning markets.
Turmeric aids ageing defence
The business line Care Specialties of Evonik now offers the purified and standardised turmeric oil extract TEGO Turmerone (INCI: Curcuma Longa (Turmeric) Root Extract) for a wide range of cosmetic applications such as anti-ageing formulations, face care for even skin tone, sun care, baby care and men’s care for dull and tired skin.
Oil association is launched
Newly-launched BACPOP, the British Association of Cold Pressed Oil Producers, aims to protect and promote the quality of the home grown premium product while also representing British farmers producing cold pressed oils including rapeseed, hemp, flax, strawberry seed, borage and others. These versatile oils are used for both culinary and healthcare purposes.
New ingredient targets age spots
Delentigo, developed by Mibelle Biochemistry, is a cosmetic ingredient to fight age spots and create an even skin tone. Age spots are characterised by a local overproduction of the two pigments melanin and lipofuscin. Delentigo prevents and reduces the synthesis of both these pigments.

HBA Global Expo is seeking speaker proposals for its renowned educational programme, taking place September 28-30, 2010 at the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center in New York. Leaders in all areas of the health and beauty business including marketers, product developers, consultants, educators, researchers, entrepreneurs, and manufacturers are encouraged to submit an application.
Siltech acquires Rhodia plant
Siltech Corporation has announced that it has acquired Rhodia’s manufacturing facility in Mississauga, Ontario, Canada. The 113,000 sq ft plant, situated on 8 acres of land, is well equipped with highly specialised chemical reactors, bulk storage and rail road facilities. Siltech will retain Rhodia’s 42 employees and will continue to manufacture Rhodia’s products under a long-term contract.
Fruit butters introduced
Biochemica International has introduced antioxidant-rich, USDA NOP** organic certified fruit butters to the personal care industry. According to the company, the butters contain lyophilised (freeze dried) whole fruits that are combined with a proprietary blend of other USDA NOP organic ingredients to form a luxurious, soft and spreadable version of the fruit in anhydrous form.

Elementis acquires Fanning and Fancor
Elementis Specialties has announced that, as of December 24, 2009, the company has acquired the assets of The Fanning Corporation and Fancor Limited, one of the largest North American suppliers of lanolin and lanolin derivatives.
Formula tackles skin ageing
DSM has announced the launch of Syn-Glycan, a new peptide formula that can be used as a bioactive ingredient in cosmetic products to reduce wrinkle formation and sagging – the most visible signs of ageing.
