Innovations unveiled in New Jersey

On May 11 and 12, Cognis Care Chemicals and its active ingredients business Laboratoires Sérobiologiques (LS) presented their latest well-being solutions for the personal care market at the NYSCC Suppliers’ Day in Edison, New Jersey.

Price rise announced

Ashland Aqualon Functional Ingredients is increasing the global price of its product lines serving the food, personal care and pharmaceutical industries by 5% effective June 1, or as contracts allow.

The HallStar Company and Scandiflex announced plans to form a new joint venture: HallStar do Brazil. The new company, which will market HallStar’s personal care ingredients, will be headquartered in São Paulo, Brazil.

Dr Straetmans has sourced a natural cosmetic ingredient which is well known as a masking agent with excellent antimicrobial properties.

Range of emulsifier technology

Zschimmer & Schwarz is promoting its emulsifier portfolio, which includes a broad range of different products for all types of emulsion technologies. A range of well known nonionic emulsifiers is complemented by specialised ethoxylates and EO-free emulsifiers.

World’s first cyclic peptide for cosmetics

Merck has developed RonaCare Cyclopeptide-5, a new peptide for anti-ageing products. Thanks to its cyclic design, the new peptide is capable of reactivating the decelerated repair processes of mature skin and stimulating its natural regeneration.

Botanical powders announced

Cosmetochem has launched Liposome Herbasec, a novel range of standardised botanical extracts in a liposomal-based powder form. The liposomes in the freeze-dried dispersion of Liposome Herbasec are reformed when dispersed in water, re-encapsulating the concentrated plant extract.

Recreating natural moisture

Sederma has announced a new concept for skin moisturisation which is claimed to be based on cosmetogenomic progress. Revidrate is the first moisturiser that regulates the genes enabling the skin to recreate its own natural moisture.

Global director appointed

The Lubrizol Corporation has announced that Rick Tolin has been named global business director, personal care and home care for Noveon Consumer Specialties.

International biodiversity campaign

Brazilian company, Beraca, has launched a global campaign as part of the UNESCO International Year of Biodiversity. Called “Be Truly Natural”, the campaign highlights that although products with natural appeal are in vogue nowadays, it is essential to bring awareness to customers worldwide about the real practices behind the marketing.

Chemicals company, BASF, has reformulated an active delivery product, enabling it to adhere to the regulations of Japanese “quasi drugs”, opening up potential for formulators to target the Japanese skin whitening market.

Cosmetics giant commits to China

Cosmetics company, Avon, has announced that it plans to open a new regional R&D centre in Shanghai, China, which will become Avon’s largest R&D facility outside of the US. Located in the Jinqiao Hi-Tech Park, the stand-alone 40,000 sq. ft. building will span six floors and have additional capacity to expand Avon’s overall scientific capabilities in China and Asia.

Cool as a cucumber

Seatons, the vegetable oil specialists from Croda International, has launched Seatons Cucumber Oil, a fresh and fragrant emollient. This golden yellow oil (INCI name: Cucumis Sativus [Cucumber] Oil) is easily absorbed into the skin and readily formulated into eye creams, make up removers and sun care products.

International sales director appointed

HBA Global has appointed Emanuela (Ema) Treneva as its new international sales director. Based in Paris, Ms. Treneva will provide sales outreach and customer support to European beauty and personal care suppliers. She will also facilitate relationships with European beauty and wellness organisations, media and pan-European customers.

Alain Khaiat receives lifetime achievement honour

In a fiercely fought competition, Dr Alain Khaiat beat three other finalists to take home the Lifetime Achievement award at a glittering ceremony at this year's in-cosmetics show. Dr Karl Lintner, Dr Daniel Maes and Dr Johann Wiechers were all in the running but it was Dr Khaiat's dedication to the cosmetic industry that saw him come out top.
