African expansion strengthens business

Univar is set to expand its business in North Africa with entities in Algeria, Egypt, Morocco and Tunisia which will service an expanded agreement with Dow Corning to sell products in these territories.

Association to monitor COSMOS standard

The five founding members of the COSMOS standard have announced the launch of an international non-profit association whose objective is to develop the COSMOS standard as an international and internationally recognised standard for organic and natural cosmetics.

Global price rise

International Specialty Products Inc. (ISP) will increase global prices for polymers, vinyl monomers, emollients, emulsifiers, preservatives, UV filters, and encapsulates from 5% to 7% effective July 1, 2010, or as contracts allow.

AAK has launched Lipex Cellect, a natural skin therapy ingredient with a high content of vegetable-derived phytosterol esters, which accelerate the barrier recovery of aged and sensitive skin, restoring a more youthful and healthy appearance.

New ingredient company

UK-based Oat Cosmetics launched in June 2010 to provide a new source of active natural cosmetic ingredients to the cosmetics and personal care industry. It will focus on fully traceable products from renewable resources and is working in partnership with Canadian biotech company Ceapro Inc., which since its start up in 1997 has achieved a reputation as an innovative formulator and advanced processor of active ingredients, botanical extracts and therapeutic products.

Three natural surfactants

The Lubrizol Corporation’s Noveon Consumer Specialties business has announced the development of three new vegetable derived surfactants for use in formulations requiring “natural” claims.

Technical talk a success

The Society of Cosmetic Scientists Singapore (SCSS) organised its first technical talk on 29 April 2010 at the Singapore Management University School of Economics & Social Sciences. This technical talk highlighted Singapore’s quest to grow its economy through A*STAR, the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.
