Melt&Marble has taken the wraps off Marble7, its first precision-fermented lipid ingredient for the personal care market.
Marble7 (INCI: r-Saccharomyces Butter) is a 3-in-1 bioactive lipid designed for use in skin care, makeup and hair care formulations.
The Swedish maker uses precision fermentation where yeast metabolism is rewired to convert sugars into lipids, allowing for the replication of existing lipids and the creation of new ones with tailored properties.
This approach enables the company to control aspects such as fatty acid profile, structure and melting behaviour.
Marble7 offers a biomimetic skin lipid profile and is rich in Omega-7 and other bioactives for skin barrier-focused formulations.
It also provides structure, stability, and sensorial performance, including a melt-on-contact transition to a smooth, silky skin feel and glide on multicategory applications.
Together, these attributes allow formulators to explore alternatives to conventional plant-, animal- or petrochemical-derived lipid ingredients while maintaining a focus on performance, consistency and sensory appeal.
“Marble7 is our first commercial product for personal care and an important step in bringing precision-fermented designer lipids into real formulation use,” said Thomas Cresswell, chief business officer at Melt&Marble.
“For formulators, the opportunity is not only to replace existing lipid ingredients, but to access next-generation ingredients designed with specific performance, sensory and supply-chain needs in mind,” he added.
Alongside the launch, Melt&Marble has entered into a collaboration with Covalo, a digital ingredient discovery platform, to expand Marble7’s visibility across the global formulation community and support faster evaluation by product development teams.
Covalo’s platform will enhance product visibility and simplify access to technical documentation, formulation concepts and samples for evaluation.
“This collaboration with Covalo allows us to move beyond traditional availability and actively drive adoption through digital activation, product visibility, and sample accessibility,” said Juliana Mancini Gomiero, head of business development for personal care at Melt&Marble.
Covalo CEO Yann Chilvers added: “After watching Melt&Marble’s innovation and rapid development from the sideline, we are delighted to help the team accelerate their journey and add Marble7 to Covalo’s portfolio of ingredients”.
