French cosmetic active maker Greentech has committed from next year to making transatlantic shipments to its US subsidiary via a novel trimaran.
The Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes-based company said it will use Vela, innovating in 100% wind-powered cargo vessels, to ship goods to Greentech USA in Englewood Cliffs, New Jersey.
Vela is positioning itself to operate a maritime line between France's Atlantic coast and the East Coast of the United States.
The line will begin operations in the second half of 2026 after its first vessel, currently under construction in Australia, is launched.
“Interested from the very beginning, when the Vela project was announced nearly two years ago, Greentech now officially joins dozens of companies confirming its commitment to inaugural crossings starting in 2026,” the personal care ingredients maker said in a statement.
According to Vela, its wind-powered shipping solution slashes carbon emissions by a factor of 40 while cutting transatlantic delivery time in half.
“This contract is a major milestone: it secures volume on our first vessel, operational as of next year, and paves the way for the next four,” said Pierre Arnaud Vallon, CEO of Vela.
Jean-Yves Berthon, CEO of Greentech, added: “A shared DNA, a measured and mindful objective—we are not changing the course of our civilization, and we won’t do less, nor will we do more—we’ll do better.”
