SPIM acknowledges special work

The 1st SPIM – Skin Physiology International Meeting – was staged in Vichy, France, and was attended by researchers from public and industrial sectors working in various fields.

The SPIM programme is an initiative of Greentech to draw attention to new approaches to research in skin physiology. Three young researchers were the winners of the 1st SPIM grants. L’Emira Guida Harfouche, from Lebanon, who works at CEA EVRY, France, shared a grant of e20,000 with a PhD student, Jean Baptiste Janela, from INSERM, Rouen, France. A poster from Dr Florence Deback- Chainiaux (URBC, Belgium) won recognition and a prize of e4,000. The themes of their work were, respectively, the radio-sensitivity of stem cells and their implication in the capacity of reparation of DNA; the role of lymphocytes T at the heart of Medicament Hypersensitivity Syndrome; and the senescence induced by UVB stress and dermis photo-ageing. The next SPIM will be held in Vichy in November 2010.
