As part of its commitment to deliver 100% vegan formulas by 2023, The Body Shop has become one of the first companies to start moving micro-challenge tests to VeganSure, a vegan microbiological testing system from MSL Solution Providers. The retailer had also been involved in validating the system.

VeganSure replaces all animal-derived ingredients in the culture media with plant-based or synthetic alternatives. These include papaya-derived enzymes, soya bean, sugars from potatoes, cornmeal and plant peptones.  It carries the Vegan Society’s rrademark and is performed in an ISO/IEC 17025:2005 accredited testing laboratory.

“This innovative testing solution means brands can take a 360° approach and ensure their formulations are animal-free from development through to microbiological testing,” MSL claimed. It has been predicted that the global vegan cosmetics industry will be $21.4 billion by 2027.
