Ashland has announced the commercial launch of Advantage 4910 polymer, a hair fixative with a long history of use in hairspray formulations. The legacy polymer known for lending lasting hold, stiffness and humidity resistivity to hair styles is included in more hairspray product launches than any other hair fixative. With the addition of Advantage 4910 polymer to its portfolio of hair styling, conditioning and fixative products, Ashland now offers hairspray manufacturers all of the major polymers required to produce today’s consumer-desirable formulas.

Organoclays with certified palm oil

Elementis Specialties is now offering Bentone organoclays that contain palm oil derivatives that have been certified in accordance with the standard of the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO). “Elementis Specialties has discontinued the use of palm oil and palm oil derivatives that do not comply with RSPO in our organoclays. In doing so, we are taking a definitive stance on sustainability to better support our customers in reaching their sustainability targets,” said Luc van Ravenstein, global business unit director of the Personal Care Business.

New member for RSPO

The Lubrizol Corporation announces the acceptance of Lubrizol Advanced Materials into the Roundtable on Sustainable Palm Oil (RSPO) association. RSPO is a not-for-profit association that unites stakeholders from seven sectors of the palm oil industry – oil palm producers, palm oil processors or traders, consumer goods manufacturers, retailers, banks and investors, environmental or nature conservation nongovernmental organisations (NGOs) and social or developmental NGOs – to develop and implement global standards for sustainable palm oil. Certification for membership is based on very stringent guidelines.

UV filter gets approval

DSM has announced that Parsol TX fully complies with all new specifications listed in the SCCS Opinions. Earlier this year, the Scientific Committee for Consumer Safety (SCCS) assessed the use of titanium dioxide in its nano form, and concluded that it is safe to use as a UV filter in cosmetic products for dermal application when it fulfills the characteristics specified by the SCCS.

Japan show gains global following

COSME Tech 2014 was hailed a great success with 130 new exhibitors and an overall growth of 50% on the previous edition. The OEM/ODM Zone and Container/Packaging Zone gathered over 100 exhibitors each, including almost all the major players in Japan, such as Japan’s top OEM company Nihon Colmar, Japan’s top cosmetic container manufacturer Glasel and many others.

New engineers for R&D laboratory

Certified portfolio expanded
