Preservative effects of hinokitiol with levulinic acid

Greenpharma of France explains the benefits of its award-winning ingredient, Hinoline C, a bio-inspired preservation system based on the association of two natural compounds hinokitiol and levulinic acid. The products are made from the upcycling of Aomori Hiba sawdust and sugar canes

For almost two decades, there has been a growing demand from consumers for increasingly natural cosmetic products. Natural products are perceived as more authentic, healthier and safer than synthetic compounds by the consumers. Therefore, formulators are constantly in search for ingredients of natural origin, environment-friendly, safe and effective.

In the meantime, preservatives have faced increasing suspicions, restricting formulators from the range of substances suitable to preserve products safely and effectively. This article will present the R&D of a natural antimicrobial blend obtained from upcycling materials from sawdust and sugar cane that has a preservative-like effect and multiple applications such as potential benefits for atopic-prone skin and clinically proven benefits for acneic skin. Moreover, it has interesting healthy ageing properties.
