Formulate Asia to give fresh insights

Formulate Asia 2008 – organised by the Cosmetics, Toiletries and Fragrance Association of Singapore and the Society of Cosmetic Scientists (Singapore) – will blend marketing and cosmetic science perspectives to give formulators a better understanding of product development.

The theme Formulate Asia 2008: From Concept to Reality reflects the aim to present an in-depth understanding of the product development process in the personal care industry. The event, being staged in Singapore on 30 and 31 October, will help formulators to avoid common pitfalls, and will provide them with fresh insights into ingredient selection and formulation technologies.

The first day’s sessions will be held at the Copthorne Waterfront Hotel and will cover topics such as:

    * The product development process (Noble Mathew, research and development director, J&J).
    * Cosmethics – an overview of safety, regulatory requirements, intellectual property, efficacy and export principles (Dr Alain Khaiat, president, Seers Consulting).
    * Understanding emulsion formulation and technologies (Chantal Amalric, research and development manager, Seppic).
    * Creating the right sensory effect with the right choice of acrylate based rheology modifier (Maria Fe Boo, skin care scientist, Lubrizol).
    * Emulsifier systems (David Dowdell, enterprise technology and marketing director, Croda).
    * Choosing an appropriate emollient system for your application (Stephanie Chan, head of research and development, Celblos Dermal Research Centre).
    * Fragrance – creating the magic smell (Dr Norbert Braun, vice president, technology scent and care, Symrise).

The second day will be a hands-on session held at Singapore Polytechnic’s laboratories and will enable participants to apply what they learned during the previous day.
