Dow MaizeCare Clarity Polymer harvests innovation awards double

Dow’s MaizeCare bio-based and biodegradable polymer has been recognised with two innovation awards.

The 2022 R&D 100 Awards recognised MaizeCare Clarity Polymer in the Mechanical/Materials category, while the Business Intelligence Group named the products a BIG Sustainability Product of the Year in the 2022 Sustainability Awards programme.

Isabel Almiro do Vale, Dow Personal Care global strategic marketing director said the awards are a recognition for its decision three years ago to transform its personal care portfolio to bring “highly performing and sustainable ingredients to the market”.

“The Maizecare Polymer platform started at that time and Clarity is only our second launch, demonstrating the technology potential of sustainable technologies,” she added.

Dow said the polymer, a COSMOS by ECOCERT approved ingredient, is unique as “for the first time a starch-based material with fixative and film forming properties can be incorporated and create crystal clear transparent formulations, meeting formulator and consumers’ needs without compromising on performance.

“Now, formulators can create sustainable products with top-performing consumer benefits like humidity resistance, improved curl retention and flexibility in styling in the most consumer-needed formats and it is also compatible with carbomer,” it added.

“Beyond hair care, these ingredients can also be leveraged to provide a variety of benefits in colour cosmetic applications.”
