Effect pigments from new process

DIC subsidiary Sun Chemical has launched two new blackened, metallic-like effect pigments: Reflecks MD Midnight Cherry and Refleck MD Midnight Sapphire

DIC subsidiary Sun Chemical has launched two new blackened, metallic-like effect pigments within its long-established Reflecks MultiDimensions product family. Reflecks MD Midnight Cherry and Refleck MD Midnight Sapphire are both based on calcium sodium borosilicate.

They are based on a patent-pending multi-layer technology that, it is claimed, “delivers intense chroma, colour travel, and sparkle. With a new patent-pending process, the absorption colorant is embedded within the coating, aiding in easier and faster formulation as well as benefitting the end customer by minimally staining the skin.”

Midnight Cherry shifts from red to green, Midnight Sapphire from blue to red. The intensity of the colour travel is enhanced by the built-in background colour using a process that embeds the absorption colorant into the coating layers, while also aiding in faster and easier formulation.

Using effect pigments based on this new process can eliminate the need for additional absorption colorants, depending on the cosmetic formula, Suh Chemical added. The new technology also helps to minimise staining on the skin, especially when compared to blended absorption pigments.
