DSM discovers sparkling new potential in Niacinamide

DSM was the first company ever to bring Niacinamide PC to the world of cosmetics and contribute to revealing its many benefits for skin care. This highly efficient and easy to formulate form of vitamin B3, has been found to play a key role in protecting UV-stressed skin and can also help rebalance skin pigmentation, refine pores and improve skin resilience.

It is tempting to think we know all there is to know about it but 10 years after its launch, this vitamin still has the power to surprise and inspire!  To mark its 10th anniversary DSM has decided to show the world how much more potential Niacinamide has. The latest breakthrough data developed by the company shows that it could prove a powerful ally in the latest challenges facing the beauty industry: environmental pollution and ubiquitous blue light.

New protection from blue light...
Consumers are well aware that they need to protect their skin against the sun's harmful UV rays. However blue light from solar irradiation or computers and smartphones is becoming as much of a concern, as these rays penetrate even deeper into the skin. Niacinamide has already been found to be effective at preserving and repairing UV stressed skin.  Now, DSM's new research shows that it offers significant protection against the detrimental effects of blue light, shielding against damage to proteins and lipids caused by exposure to blue light and playing a key role in DNA repair. What's more, it reduces the appearance of lines and wrinkles, improves the elasticity of the skin, rebalances uneven tone and reduces discoloration, for beautiful and healthy skin.

... and pollution
Around the world concern is also growing about pollution and its effect on skin condition. Dermatologists have linked pollution with a number of skin complaints, including loss of radiance, a dull complexion, pigmentation and premature ageing. DSM has found that Niacinamide increases cell viability when exposed to urban pollution particles, even at low concentrations, which protects against cell damage that can lead to skin ageing, pigmentation and skin inflammation.

Innovation peps up the world of vitamins...
Vitamins enjoy unparalleled trust and confidence among consumers all over the world.  Strongly associated with health and nature, they are known to add vitality to the skin and hair, and demand for them is greater than ever. One in every two care products contains a vitamin. In the world of beauty, their benefits may be long-established but DSM's exciting and groundbreaking discoveries show that vitamins still have even more to offer.

Ten years on, Niacinamide PC is still able to create a spark.  And like all DSM’s vitamins, Quali®-B now comes with the Quality for Life™ seal that guarantees the highest standards for Quality, Reliability, Traceability, and Sustainability. Find out more about what's inspiring DSM.
