Cognis Thai and Thai Oleochemicals Company, a subsidiary of PTT Chemical Public Company, have announced that they have agreed to enter into a 50:50 joint venture for the production and marketing of fatty alcohols.
Fatty alcohols joint venture
The joint venture, which will trade under the name of Thai Fatty Alcohols Company, will be the first company to produce refined fatty alcohols in Thailand. The fatty alcohols produced by the joint venture will both be used for downstream activities, and sold on the open market, primarily to customers in the home and personal care industries. A new facility with an annual production capacity of 100,000 metric tons will be built at Rayong, where the two companies already operate a joint venture for fatty alcohol ethoxylates, Thai Ethoxylate Company. Rayong is situated south-east of Bangkok, and is only three miles away from a deep-water port. The new facility should be operational by the beginning of 2008.
