We are Stephenson, one of the world’s leading innovators and manufacturers of speciality soap bases. Working with some of the biggest industry names and having won two queens awards to industry, our reputation for excellence throughout every stage of the process is second to none.

Dedicated experts in their own fields, our team (30% focusing on chemistry or lab areas) understand and continue to challenge themselves to meet the ever-changing demands of our global customers.

From our dedicated facility in Horsforth, West Yorkshire, we manage our R&D, manufacturing, sales customer marketing and distribution services, ensuring complete control and continuity of our products and services.

Founded in Bradford, England in 1856, we originally manufactured soap-based agents for wool processing, along with furniture wax and polish products.  As the market for wool processing changed in the 1960’s, we diversified to develop new chemistries and innovations. It was in the late 1990’s that saw the introduction of Personal Care products and in particular vegetable soap bases. Stephenson is owned by Thos. Bentley & Son Ltd , where our CEO Jamie Bentley, is now the fifth generation of the family to be involved with the company.

As a company we are proud of our heritage, but equally in our commitment to the future, through continued motivation, investment, support and a culture to strive to do better.

Emulsifiers:

DUROSOFT® is a range of naturally derived monoglyceryl and polyglyceryl esters, developed to aid the demand for natural products and “green chemistries”, across a wide variety of personal care and cosmetic applications. The DUROSOFT® range of natural ingredients is a starting point for creating a natural range of personal care products. Their non-ionic characteristics make them compatible with a broad range of cosmetic oils, active ingredients, surfactants and co-emulsifiers.

Soaps and Syndets:

Soap free, ultra mild, Syndopal® is a pH 5.5-6.0 extruded syndet base. For the manufacture of luxury, high performance soap free extruded opaque solid beauty, shampoo and conditioner bars.

Extruded:

For soap bar extruders and traditional soap manufacturers, our extruded soap bases are dust free and formulated for optimum processing.

Easily processable extruded bases offer soap bar manufacturers time-savings and successful trial runs with only a small addition of chosen fragrance, colour and active ingredients, to achieve an excellent finished bar soap. Our range of extruded soap noodles includes; opaque, translucent, high foaming, shave soap, certified organic, 100 % RSPO certified segregated sustainable palm and are formulated with a variety of speciality oils to provide enhanced product claims.

Melt and Pour:

Crystal Melt & Pour is used to produce some of the most innovative and aesthetically pleasing soap bars on the market.

Ideal for the craft market, because it requires little in the way of specialist equipment, customers typically need only to add colour and fragrance to achieve fantastic finished soap bars. Our Melt and Pour soap bases are also popular with large scale, automated, manufacturers wanting to produce mass market innovative soap lines to differentiate themselves from their competition.

A multitude of melt and pour soap base varieties are available each specially formulated to meet specific market demands.

Cosmetics:

A comprehensive range of cosmetic and lotion bases, ranging from natural cold process bases to Certified Organic cosmetic bases. These products are easily processable and require a small addition of oil, fragrance, functional ingredients and colour to produce a variety of quality finished skincare products - creams, lotions and body butters.

We offer a comprehensive range of cosmetic and lotion bases, ranging from natural cold process bases to certified organic cosmetic bases. Our Easy Lotion Base requires little more than the addition of 2-3% Oil, colour and fragrance, to produce a variety of fantastic finished cosmetic products. For those customers looking to add up to 8%-12% additional oils with further flexibility, we offer a Multi Lotion Base.

Liquids:

We have a comprehensive range of liquid bases, ranging from surfactant concentrates to certified natural and organic liquid soap bases. These products require simple setup, additives such as colour fragrance, and sometimes a thickening solution to produce a variety of fantastic finished liquid products such as liquid shower gel, liquid hand soap, 3-in-1 applications, liquid shampoo, foam soap etc.
