Nagase Viita describes an enzymatically- manufactured ascorbyl glucoside, which offers a holistic approach to sun care for healthier looking skin, empowering people to enjoy the benefits of sunlight with confidence
The sun care market continues to grow year over year, and several reports show a growing trend of ‘sunxiety’ – anxiety related to sun exposure – among consumers.1 Many consumers are worried about getting skin damage and feel unrelaxed when exposed to the sun.
What is accelerating their anxiety to sun exposure? A primary factor is the depletion of the ozone layer, caused by chemicals like chlorofluorocarbons. The ozone layer serves as a natural barrier, protecting us from harmful ultraviolet (UV) radiation emitted by the sun (Figure 1). Its degradation has resulted in elevated levels of UV radiation reaching the Earth's surface.
While the Montreal Protocol implemented in 1989 successfully regulated the majority of ozone-depleting substances, the full restoration of the ozone layer remains a long-term process. In the meantime, heightened UV radiation continues to pose a significant risk to skin health.
