An Asian personal care brand is hoping to redefine what effective skin care really means with its ‘skinfulness’ philosophy.
The Beauty Co-Lab's CKIN, founded by prominent Filipino fashion and beauty professional Camille Co-Koro, is deploying a holistic framework that recognises that healthy skin is influenced by far more than beauty products.
Based on UK-based skin care expert Dr Katerina Steventon's many years of research and clinical practice, ‘skinfulness’ brings together the latest understanding of skin biology with the many lifestyle, environmental and psychological factors that shape skin health every day.
“Skinfulness means looking at skin care through a holistic lens, recognising the deep connections between skin, body and mind,” said Steventon.
“Products remain an essential part of good skin care, but they are only one piece of a much bigger picture,” she added.
Rather than focusing solely on treating visible symptoms, CKIN’s Skinfulness encourages people to understand the multiple influences on their skin, including genetics and hormones, nutrition, sleep and recovery, stress, environmental exposure, skin care rituals and the importance of social connection and self-compassion.
The framework was originally developed to support people living with acne, acknowledging not only the biological drivers of the condition but also its impact on confidence, emotional wellbeing and everyday life.
Instead of pursuing perfect skin, Skinfulness promotes informed choices, realistic expectations and sustainable habits that support both skin health and overall wellbeing.
This whole-person approach reflects a growing movement within skin science.
Research into the skin–brain connection, psychodermatology and the effects of stress and lifestyle on skin function is changing how clinicians, researchers and the personal care industry think about skin care.
Increasingly, skin care is being recognised not only as a cosmetic intervention but also as an important daily ritual that can support self-care, emotional wellbeing and long-term skin health.
As scientific understanding continues to grow, Skinfulness offers a practical framework that helps translate emerging research into everyday skin care—encouraging progress rather than perfection, and recognising that healthy skin is about how we feel as much as how we look.
