JO Cosmetics ‘extreme sunscreen’ wins CITE JAPAN gold

JO Cosmetics has won gold in the CITE JAPAN 2025 technology award category for Summerproof UV, an advanced sunscreen developed using proprietary food-processing technology.

The Tokyo-based company partnered with House Foods Group to blend food-industry polysaccharides (QD) and polysaccharides to maximize UV blocking.

Summerproof UV is said to offer extreme UV protection by forming an elastic barrier that withstands sweat and sebum, reducing the need for frequent reapplication.

The formula feels light while leaving no white cast, and resisting slipping in active conditions - ideal for sports and outdoor use; it is also fragrance-, alcohol-, and surfactant-free.

The silver award in the technology category went to Miyoshi Oil & Fat for Ionic Liquid Emollient, an organic-salt-based electrolyte previously used in electronics.

It is said to outperform hyaluronic acid in preventing moisture evaporation and significantly enhanced skin penetration in ex vivo tests.

Bronze awards went to Ashland for Zeta Fraction Chamomile Extract, DSM-Firmenich for Eterwell Youth and Momentive Performance Materials for Harmonie NatuVel Gel.

In the environment category, Technoble won gold for Blue Upcycle, a cross-industry project cosmetic and packaging project that harnessed extracts of coastal seagrass Zostera japonica.

Silver went to Iwase Cosfa for ST-750 Titanium Dioxide Booster - sea-urchin–shaped TiO₂ particles (ST-750) that boost UV protection when combined with UV absorbers.

Bronze awards went to Evonik for Ecohance Remo XP, Higuchi for Sensol 100 and NOF Corporation for Bioleam Series.

The 12th CITE JAPAN conference and exhibition took place on 14-16 May in Yokohama.

The next edition will take place in Yokohama on 19-21 May 2027.
