PRESSED POWDER FOUNDATION WITH HALLBRITE® BHB
Hallstar
Preparation:
Pressed powders consist of a carrier (filler), colorants, texture modifiers (often called specialty fillers), and binders (to compact the product into a breakage resistant cake). The formulation base used here is typical of many current pressed powder formulations. Dry ingredients: The principal filler is talc with one or more specialty fillers to modify slip, skin feel, wear, or compressibility. Bismuth Oxychloride improves slip, adhesion, pressing, and provides some coverage. Dimethicone-treated sericite improves slip. The surface treatment improves compaction of the sericite and gives a lubricious feel. Zinc Stearate is the most common dry binder. Kaolin is a dry binder, but it also provides some coverage. Oils: The oils act as wet binders to hold the powder together. Oils that wet the dry ingredients well will produce excellent compaction but, used alone, may cause the cake to be too hard and so not allow adequate pickup in use. The combination of Octyldodecyl Stearoyl Stearate (which wets dry ingredients well) and dimethicone (a poor wetting emollient) is often used. In addition, a lighter oil of intermediate wetting efficiency, e.g., Octyldodecyl Neopentanoate or Isocetyl Stearate may be included.Disclaimer
