Although the aquatic environment is a huge pool of unknown molecules and substances with exceptional properties, natural substances from dry land are more widely used and studied. Indeed, it is easier to plant, harvest and produce throughout precise seasons of the year. This is completely the opposite for marine organisms, which explains their use is much more limited than that of organisms from land.
However, our Earth – ‘the blue planet’ – has almost 3/4 of its surface covered by water and so is a huge world to discover. This is the mission of GREENSEA – sister company of GREENTECH – to look for and to study new strains of micro- and macro-algae from all over the world.
Dedicated to marine bioactives, GREENSEA develops specific conditions of culture for each strain, which can be scaled up to photobioreactors (annular and tubular types). As a result, biomass and new bioactive natural molecules of interest can be produced for cosmetics.
Also, the R&D team is able to implement conditions of culture in order to induce metabolic adaptations of microalgae. This technique of biotechnology involves adjustments from culture to environmental changes and thus the production of particular metabolites. Hence, these modiļ¬cations trigger the microalgae’s physiological mechanisms towards the high added-value targeted molecules’ over-expression and/or accumulation. This high-tech tool using metabolic induction obtains original and innovative marine bioactives for cosmetics and dermocosmetics.
Since the cosmetics sector requires constant innovation, particularly at the level of active ingredients, GREENTECH has decided to mix its world – the plant world – with the world of its sister companies GREENSEA and BIOVITIS; respectively the algae and microorganism worlds. Thus, GREENTECH is at the crossroads of the world’s range of raw materials, techniques and tools, in order to create new and innovative cosmetic actives that break new ground in the market...
