May 2010
With an export market worth in excess of e4.5 billion,1 France is Europe’s largest exporter of cosmetics and toiletries and arguably its most competitive. Supplying ingredients to its manufacturers is therefore no doubt a challenging proposition.

No wonder French companies are renowned for their highly creative and innovative approach. From natural and organic to high-tech, active ingredients are a French speciality and many of the French Pavilion exhibitors at in-cosmetics Asia 2010 will be showcasing new launches.

On show in Bangkok

Creations Couleurs will be offering Eospoly TR series, a new generation of SPF and UVA physical filters, which are larger in size than 100 nanometers, and avoid current product declarations for nano-materials. The UVA/UVB ratio is manufactured to meet high SPF/UVA photostable protection, with great ease of use for mainly skin care and colour care. Eospoly TR create highly effective “soft focus effects” due to multi-reflectional refraction blurring.

ABC Texture, has recently developed several new products. These include facial filling creams whose aim is to achieve a perfectly smoothed face where wrinkles are filled and dark circles as well as dilated pores are erased. Also available are complexion enhancers containing lightening ingredients, which are perfect make-up bases. BB creams (blemish base creams), the new trend in foundation, will also be presented. French squalane manufacturer,

Sophim, has launched its new Organic Phytowax 18L57. A multi-benefit organic emollient derived from olive, this soft wax offers a unique balance between spreadability and consistency. Stable, non-greasy, non-comedogenic, it gives a smooth texture for silky skin feel and restores the lipidic structure of the stratum corneum.

Interpolymer will be using in-cosmetics Asia 2010 as its official launch platform in Asia to promote Syntran PC 5775, a new water resistant polymer for decorative cosmetics (mascara, eye liner, foundation). This water-based film former delivers quick setting films with good adhesion and improves resistance to rub-off and wear for long-lasting benefits.

Olvea will be showcasing products from its manufacturing unit in Morocco, where it is a market leader in high quality cold pressed argan oil. Containing exceptionally high levels of essential fatty acids (omega- 6), argan oil also features very high levels of gamma-tocopherols which boast excellent cosmetic application properties.

Lessonia will present LycoMega, a 100% natural active ingredient used to develop sun care, anti-ageing and other skin cosmetic products. LycoMega is a very strong active in the protection of human skin cells against UVB radiation. The active compounds are extracted using a natural process. It contains Lycopene (80 ppm) and omega-3 (8%). Custom-made raw materials experts ID Bio have launched a new range of fruit actives which are 100% organic (and certified by ECOCERT Greenlife) and preservative free. On show will be Mang’inTense, an active from mango fruit, increasing hyaluronic acid synthesis, therefore improving skin hydration, firmness and elasticity. Also available will be PapayaSlim, a reshaping active from papaya fruit which improves lipidic destorage and sculpts the silhouette.

Laboratoire Soniam has developed a brand new range of organic products made from germinated seeds. These feature Organic Pur’juice (99% organic), pure water containing the water-soluble elements of green shoots and Organic Pur’milk (90% organic), pure milk containing the water-soluble and liposoluble elements of green shoots.

Laboratoires Prod’Hyg, the French botanical expert, will launch a new organic certified active based on organic grapefruit seeds and organic certified Glycerin. This extract, obtained by a patented hyperfrequence process, is able to provide sebo-regulating properties as well as anti-inflammatory actions.

Biolandes’ range is enriched with new BIO-CE and NOP certified extracts. The company has now developed a natural and authentic IFRA compliant tree moss extract which preserves this specific lichen note so appreciated by perfumers. Extremely vigilant about atranol and chloroatranol concentration, Biolandes guarantees less than 100 ppm content.

Technature, a leader in peel-off masks, will be inviting brands to try their innovative beauty treatments. These comprise the Shaker Masks: within a few seconds the powder and the water mix in the shaker cocktail to create an instantaneous mask. Also on show will be self-heating massage stones – where masseurs can shape their own stones – as well as a full range of organic cosmetic products for the trade.

A true petrolatum alternative
Until antibiotics conquered the world, the only possible method for curing gangrene was maggot therapy, except for amputation of the extremities. Maggots were applied to the wound and would eat the necrotic tissue, including the organisms that were responsible for that.

Skin defences boosted by grapefruit extract
Humans are constantly exposed to harmful foreign chemicals and materials from exogenous and endogenous sources. As a result, defence mechanisms have evolved to protect against toxin overload.1 Cells are under constant threat from metabolic waste products and xenobiotics. The formation of phase I and phase II metabolism mobilises and excretes these mainly lipophilic toxins.
