Nourishing care is essential for smooth and healthy-looking, radiant skin. Thanks to its high concentration of unsaturated fatty acids, antioxidants and squalene, Argan Oil from DSM helps to maintain youthful-looking skin by nourishing and replenishing it and by restoring its natural barrier.

Squalene’s chemical similarity to human sebum makes it ideal for softening and protecting the skin, providing natural moisturisation. The phenolic acids and tocopherols additionally provide significant protection against free radicals and the ageing processes, while linoleic acid (omega 6) helps to maintain the skin’s permeability. The formulation potential is huge. Argan Oil, from the fruit of the Moroccan tree Argania spinosa, is suitable for use in a wide range of applications and products. For example, its protective and regenerative properties are ideal for facial and body care dedicated to sensitive skin. It can also support formulations that help to prevent stretch marks. As an ingredient in makeup, it helps give the product a pleasant skin feeling. However, the product also has a great deal of potential for hair care formulations. An independent study with trained expert panels was sponsored by DSM and performed by the Institute Fresenius in Taunusstein, Germany. The study assessed shine on Caucasian brown hair swatches using two different rinse-off formulations – a shampoo and a conditioner – while comparing Argan Oil, a standard mineral oil and a leading brand formulation as a market benchmark. The ingredients were tested at 0.1% and 0.3% in shampoo and 0.5% and 1.0% in conditioner based on a formulation close to the market product as the base formulation. Single comparison tests were performed in two blocks according to the different formulation types. The panels assessed the hair samples for shine on a visual basis and the sum of their positive rankings is shown below. At a concentration of 0.1% in a shampoo, DSM Argan Oil was shown to outperform the competition, market benchmark and control formulations.
